How do I run 1v1 RPs?

I have been very interested in creating and participating in a 1v1 RP, BUT I have no idea on how to go about doing so.

I am used to larger groups or 3+ people and I don't understand how to make one. I can come up with a story easy enough but I am more worried about how to run it. I am afraid it will become too much of a question and answer between me (the GM) and my partner. How can I run a story, and participate in it when there is only one other person involved?
